Alcatel Submarine Networks invests in its industrial production facilities

Paris-Les Ulis, France
– March 12, 2026

Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) announces an investment of approximately €100 million in its factories in Calais (France) and Greenwich (UK).

For over a decade, global demand for bandwidth has been steadily increasing, especially with the widespread adoption of cloud services, the proliferation of streaming services, and more recently, the rise of Artificial Intelligence platforms.

Faced with growing data consumption, telecommunications operators and the GAFAM companies are investing heavily in their infrastructures, particularly in submarine fibre optic cables which carry 99% of data transferred between continents at the speed of light.

To meet this demand, Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), a longstanding European player in the design, production and installation of such systems, continues to modernise the infrastructure at its two production facilities located in Calais (France) and Greenwich (United Kingdom).

To support its development, ASN is implementing an investment plan of nearly €100 million over 3 years (2026–2028), aiming to modernise its equipment for the production of next-generation cables. This plan includes the renovation and expansion of a building at the Calais site as well as the fit-out of a new building at the Greenwich site.

This investment strengthens ASN’s local presence both in the Calais and London areas, with the intention of enhancing local expertise and valuing the skills of ASN’s employees.

Philippe Fizellier, Executive Director responsible for Industrial Operations, commented on this decision: “With this plan entitled Ambition 2030, ASN continues to invest in human skills and its infrastructure to support its customers and offer technologies tailored to their needs, while maintaining the quality and reliability demanded by the market.”
